Bite & Joy is a holistic resturant brand focused on promoting mindful eating and joyful experiences. With the increasing demand for convenient yet personalised food-ordering solutions, the goal was to design an application that allows users to order meals based on their moods and cravings, provides browsing, ordering and checkout experience, reflects the brand vibrant, health-conscious identity through UI/UX Design.
Ordering food can often feel overwhelming due to the paradox of choice. Users face decision fatigue when scrolling through endless menus. Bite & Joy needed a solution that:
- Simplified the food-ordering process.
- Reduced choice overload with mood-driven menu options.
- Created a fun, personalised, and brand-aligned experience.
To ground the design in real user needs, I conducted surveys and interviews focusing on food-ordering behaviours and emotional triggers. The research revealed that users frequently experience decision fatigue when faced with extensive menus, often defaulting to repetitive choices. Many also expressed a desire for more personalised recommendations aligned with their moods and dietary preferences. These insights highlighted the importance of simplifying meal selection while keeping the experience engaging and emotionally resonant.
Following the Design Thinking framework, I moved through discovery, definition, ideation, prototyping, and testing. I created personas and journey maps to capture user motivations, pain points, and opportunities. From there, I designed wireframes that translated the concept of “mood-based menus” into a functional navigation system. Interactive prototypes were tested with users to validate ease of use, while visual design was developed in alignment with Bite & Joy’s vibrant and health-conscious brand identity. Iteration was central — feedback informed refinements to both the interface and the ordering flow, ensuring clarity and efficiency without sacrificing playfulness.
The final design introduced mood-driven meal categories such as “Comfort Food,” “Energising,” and “Light & Fresh,” reducing the cognitive load of browsing long menus. To support personalisation, users could filter options based on dietary preferences like vegan, gluten-free, or high-protein. A streamlined checkout flow minimised steps from selection to payment, addressing the need for quick and hassle-free ordering. Visually, the app embraced a modern, joyful aesthetic with vibrant colours, playful microinteractions, and clean layouts that reinforced Bite & Joy’s brand identity. Together, these solutions created a personalised, emotionally engaging, and efficient food-ordering experience.
